FROM THE FALL OF 2016 TO LATE 2018 MOE GRAM WORKED IN PARTNERSHIP WITH GRAND DESIGN, INC. TO CREATE CULTURALLY SENSITIVE FINE ARTS PROGRAMMING WITH THE STUDENTS OF THE BOETTCHER BOYS AND GIRLS CLUB. OVER THE YEARS MANY PROJECTS BECAME POSSIBLE INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO THE “HEART IS HERE” MURAL PROJECT AND THE CANDY LAND TALENT SHOW SET.
THE WIZ
Moe Gram acted as a community partner who helped students to create the set for their winter play, The Wiz. Students learned about how to design a set, use new materials and what happens behind the scenes during a play.
HERE IS OUR HEART
In the summer of 2018 the Boettcher Boys and Girls Club closed. 2 months prior to the club closing Moe Gram offered to teach a mural painting class for summer programming. As a restorative practice and fine arts opportunity Gram worked with students to create a mural design that would describe the value the club had on their lives. The students involved wanted to create a mural that showed the various areas of the club, the fun activities they did, their personal bodies, and a large image of the club with eagle wings. As the students developed their design, Moe Gram helped to facilitate the painting process and overall outcome of the mural project. Once completed, Gram invited families, staff (new and old), club alumni, and students to sign their place into the mural.
CANDY LAND TALENT SHOW
In partnership with Grand Design Inc. Moe Gram was asked to aid the children in creating the set for their holiday talent show. Student Anthony A. created a drawing with a candy land theme. His drawing featured floating candy windows, lollipop buses, a chocolate waterfall, and floating hard candies with candy brick walls. In the spirit of manifesting the ideas of children Moe Gram aided Anthony in bringing his vision to life.
